Walking Sim
A downloadable game
For this walking sim game, you walk through Medusa’s forest and realize why PS1 Hagrid has been turned into stone!
I had a multitude of ideas for this walking sim. At first, I really wanted the player to play as Moses parting the seas as well as walking through the ocean. When I had this idea, I was on a routine binge of watching the Prince of Egypt multiple times a day while studying, so it felt pretty fitting to make a game about what I was interested in. Then, I realized I don’t have the capabilities to do all of that and how would i have the NPC’s follow me!? So, I kind of thought maybe I could just be walking through a forest then get to a little grotto – then that idea kind of just built upon itself when I added the pillars, thinking the player could have stumbled onto some sort of ritual site. Then, I really couldn’t find the assets I wanted to use so I kind of started to just look for other ideas to get my mind going. I ended up adding skeletons and landed on the idea maybe the player is stumbling into a serial killer camping ground! So I looked for the murderers and I stumbled upon the PS1 Harry Potter assets and I thought they were HILARIOUS….so I thought maybe PS1 Hagrid could be our murderer, and I even looked for murder weapon assets as well. However, I simply couldn’t figure out how to texture PS1 Hagrid and I ended up getting really angry because I couldn’t figure it out. So instead of just texturing him like normal PS1 Hagrid, I textured him like the concrete rock pillars! I thought it was a little funny seeing him like that and it’s like if Medusa turned him into stone. So this then turned into what it is now, Medusa’s garden and find out why PS1 Hagrid is turned into stone!
One thing that I learned from making this walking sim is how I just really need to get better at figuring out how to texture meshes. A lot of the meshes I tried to texture didn’t turn out well and I am not completely sure why. I think it turned out O-K for the most part, enough to be happy about. I am really proud of myself for figuring out the audio because I have always been scared of adding audio into my games and it ended up being very very simple!
