A downloadable game
Play as Mr. Penguin trying to find his way into the most sought out club hidden deep within a cave; he must not only find his way to this club but watch out for falling cave rocks that will crush him alive – KILLING HIM ON THE SPOT!
Throughout the process of making this, I learned quite a lot. I learned some of my strengths and also a lot of my weaknesses.
For my weakness, I would definitely say it’s just importing assets and sorting through them as well as figuring out how to do the animation blends. I struggled heavily on that part of the project and I think it shows very clearly that I struggled. One of the reasons why I need an extension was because of the animation issues I was having, I simply could not wrap my head around the different assets and everything of the sort which kind of discouraged me and upset me because I one-hundred percent think that art is my favorite part of designing a game so seeing that I am not the best at figuring out how to implement the animations is somewhat disheartening. But, that doesn’t mean I still can’t learn. This is one of my first times doing animation on Unity and Rome wasn’t built in a day so practice makes perfect. I plan on using this game for my final project and I want to maybe implement my own assets so maybe that will help me and even if I don’t use my own assets I am still going to try my best to learn how to do it even harder than trying to learn it with this project.
For my strengths, I learned that I love sound design. I think it is so fun and it does add a lot of “oomf” to a game. Part of making this game was me trying to figure out how to go from one sound to another and I think it was super fun. My friend makes music and he made the sound that I used for when the player enters the club and it kind of inspired me about how the level was going to end and what the purpose of the level was going to be because I felt very lost on what the overarching theme of it would be. He showed me this audio that he made which he purposely made to be really chaotic and just disorganized and I thought that it was hilarious and it sounded like penguins singing and so I asked him if I could use it in this game and he told me yeah sure! So I think that is a really fun touch.
Going forward into the final project, which will be me polishing up this game even more, I think that there are two things that I really want to work on. That is fixing all my issues with the animation, I really want to dedicate some time to that and actually finishing it and putting my head to it just so it finally looks nice. I also want to add enemies and be able to attack enemies somewhat like the slimes in Stardew Valley when you’re in the cave instead of just having the falling rocks. I also want to implement a little bit more of sound design and have the camera shake and also make a thud when the rocks fall.
